A Successful Rollout for NNMTA Wheelchair Tennis!

Wheelchair Tennis for Northern New Mexico was kicked off by a coaching workshop held at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center on March 22nd. The event was organized by Amy Badger, newly named District Coordinator for the Southwest Division of the United States Professional Tennis Association, in cooperation with the USTA Southwest Section, and USTA Northern New Mexico Tennis Association. Over 20 attended, including aspiring wheelchair coaches and wheelchair athletes, both juniors and adults.
Thank you to Il Vicino Pizza for providing food for the workshop, and to Claudia Dils from Tucson, a certified wheelchair pro, for providing the training to attendees.
In exciting news for wheelchair tennis in Albuquerque, Enrique Aguilar, Chair of the USTA NNMTA Wheelchair Tennis Committee, has been working with the City of Albuquerque to begin weekly WEDNESDAY WHEEL AROUNDS every Wednesday beginning April 16th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center. Additionally, the City has agreed to upgrade access at Jerry Cline and the proposed North Domingo Baca courts to assure that sports wheelchair players will have access to City courts and facilities.
