USTA WHEELCHAIR CLINIC HELD MARCH 22 TO KICKOFF FREE PROGRAMMING EFFORTS FOR
ASPIRING WHEELCHAIR PLAYERS IN TEMPE AND SCOTTSDALE

USTA Wheelchair Clinic - March 22, 2014 (noon - 4 pm) - Tempe, Ariz. 


Wheelchair1The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Central Arizona district is hosting a Wheelchair Tennis Clinic for tennis teaching pros, current wheelchair tennis players, and aspiring wheelchair athletes who want to learn wheelchair tennis. The clinic will bring together coaches and players from all over the Phoenix metropolitan area with the common goal of increasing wheelchair tennis play opportunities.

The Wheelchair Tennis Clinic for Pros & Players is a kick-off event held Sunday, March 23 from noon - 4 pm at the Kiwanis Tennis and Recreation Center in Tempe, Ariz. This clinic is the launching event for a free, five-week series of instruction at two facilities in the Phoenix metro - one at Kiwanis Tennis Center and Recreation Center in Tempe, Ariz. and the other at Scottsdale Ranch Park Tennis Center in Scottsdale, Ariz.  

After the five-week series, both facilities have agreed to incorporate tennis lessons for wheelchair tennis players as part of their regular programming.  

The Wheelchair Tennis Clinic in Phoenix is just the beginning of a USTA Southwest Section-wide emphasis on expanding the section’s wheelchair tennis offerings and creating a wheelchair tennis competition pathway.

WHAT: Wheelchair Tennis Clinic for Pros & Players    COST: FREE to attend for coaches and players.

EVENT TIMELINE
Teaching pros will be at the facility from noon-4 pm.  Begins with an in-class session where lunch will be provided with an on-court/in-chair training and hands-on teaching experience to follow. PLAYERS  2pm-4pm: Two hours of free on-court tennis instruction. Attendees are qualified for a free five-week follow-up clinic and a chance to earn a free racquet.

ABOUT USTA WHEELCHAIR TENNIS 
USTA’s wheelchair tennis initiative provides those with physical disabilities the chance to play and compete through sport. Just like able-bodied USTA programs, wheelchair tennis opportunities range from  just-for-fun, recreational levels  to professional tennis.
